SES Coalition

First formed in 2004, the EIA-SES Coalition has led the national movement for ethics among service providers, now adopted by over 22 States. In addition, the Coalition has represented providers through regulatory reforms in IL, FL, CA, NM, OH and GA. The Coalition regularly intervenes with States and local school districts to ensure fair-play for providers. In addition, the Coalition has worked closely with the US Department of Education to develop new regulations on SES and to enhance its Non-Regulatory Guidance. EIA and its members have testified before Congress and have close working relationships with Majority and Minority Congressional Offices. The Coalition, through the media, regularly promotes the success stories of providers in helping to close the achievement gap of hard to serve children.

Now, in preparation for the re-authorization of ESEA and to more effectively fight to preserve and improve after-school tutoring, EIA is working with other stakeholders, including Tutor Our Children (TOC) to implement a focused and intensive advocacy, communications and grassroots campaign just for the preservation of SES. Separate EIA coalitions will advocate on behalf of all other federal education policy matters.

In addition to working on your behalf with Congress and the Administration, EIA, through the SES Coalition, will continue to intervene in select school districts to problem-solve specific implementation issues. And we will endeavor to help you find new business opportunities beyond SES.  Currently we are working hard in New York City, Chicago, Prince Georges County, MD, LAUSD, the State of MA, the District of Columbia and other districts as the need arises. You can remain anonymous while EIA fights on your  behalf.

By joining the EIA SES Coalition, you directly support our Campaign to save and improve after-school tutoring for low-income/low-achieving students to and ensure fair-play at the local.

Code of Ethics

In 2005, EIA, with input from providers, developed the industry's first-ever Code of Ethics for SES Providers. The Code has since been revised, and adopted by over 25 states as part of the provider approval process. EIA was honored by the American Society of Association Executives in 2009 for its leadership in highlighting the importance of ethical business practices among its members. We urge our members and the broader community to stringently follow the EIA Code of Conduct for SES Providers.

SES Evaluation Reports

This document is a compilation of many studies conducted by States and Districts to evaluate the impact of SES on student achievement. EIA strongly believes in accountability and we support federal-state-local efforts to measure student achievement. The preferred methodology incorporates data from providers own pre-post assessments, State AYP testing, survey findings from parents and teachers, coupled with compliance monitoring. Several States including Florida, Indiana, Illinois, and Tennessee use this rubric.
